		<description>


What drives me is a fascination for exploring worlds, either fictional or real. I aim at creating an experience with objects or installations as medium to guide you through a narrative. 

The work often has an anthropological starting point, zooming in and reflecting on mankind’s oddities. and can result in different scales: from scenography, performance and stage design to artefacts and furniture, but will always involve world-building and storytelling.In my design process there is a dialogue between digital tools and craft techniques.


Graduated from the BA ‘’Media and Culture’’ department at Design academy eindhoven.

Mouse, keyboard and screen have become the ceremonial objects for uploading our consciousness to the digital realm through server rooms, data centers and cloud storage space. ‘Cloud Interface ’ is an immersive experience that explores our ritualistic relationship with new technology. Acting as a meeting point between us and the flows of information we engage with, this iconography for the information-age reveals what happens behind our screens. Digital tools and networks extend our bodies and minds, Plugging us into an ecosystem of connectivity. Sit down, put on the VR headset and let the ceremony commence.

Using post-truth dynamics as design methodology


A collection of objects describing a fictional universe accompanied by a catalogue with detailed descriptions and lore of all the objects.


We live in a world where fact and fiction are closely interwoven. Multiple ‘’truths’’ are existing next to each other, it is all about which version of reality you subscribe to. 

The intentions behind the traditional cabinets of curiosities were to create an overview of the reality we are living in, a microcosm in a way. This was done by assembling objects from different aspects of the world, from anatomy to science to crafts.

The collection as a whole says more about the owner than about the world they lived in: they collaged the objects to tell the story they are convinced of, and the narratives behind the objects were often glorified to impress the viewers.

There is a link between these collections and the way politicians and the media nowadays cherry pick the facts that suit their narrative. 


Using the same process but applying it to designing objects. Starting out by writing texts about a fictional civilisation, the cities they live in, the objects that they encounter in their daily life, the food they eat and so on. From these fictional texts I extract ‘’facts’’ that make the building blocks for designing these objects. The fictional objects becomes the embodiment of these cherry picked ‘’facts’’.

Fictionalising material culture
What:
Exploring ways we can look at, and reassess material culture that is dictating our lives:

A deified card terminal, wifi hotspot column and the throne in which we consume entertainment. Accompanied by a codex that depicts an alternative reality where material culture is more expressive.


Why:


‘‘Mankind lives in a dual reality: On the one hand, the objective reality of rivers, trees and lions; and on the other hand, the imagined reality of gods, nations and corporations’’


Myth are naturalising a concept or believe, they turn fictional stories into accepted parts of everyday life. These fictional narratives have always dictated material culture and the rituals we take part in. Lately these have manifested mostly in anonymous black boxes that look ‘’undesigned’’. Can making interventions in these objects and rituals involved denaturalise the myth? 
Is what we are doing now so much different than ancient rituals which we acknowledge as fiction?


How:

By looking back on the contemporary myth in past few decades and rephrase their physical counterparts; fictionalising and dramatising the&#38;nbsp; semiotics, frame, interaction and context. 

Objectively describing how we interact with a traffic light will already reveal the fictional aspects of the ritual: A red light is telling us to halt our course, we wait in front of an imaginary line and others join us in queue. When the sign turns green we are allowed passage and continue our way over a striped surfaces that forms a bridge to the other side of the street.

A production technique that mimics the process of how mankind changes landscapes.&#38;nbsp;


Throughout history our perception of ‘’the wild’’ has changed; from the place where demons roam to the ‘’sublime’’. Along with perception, also the reasons why we altered landscapes has changed; from religion to industry to leisure. We are no longer participants of nature but instead dominating her. Even though the effects of this act are ugly, there is a lot of beauty in the process of a landscaped that is worked upon, the industry is creating monuments in the act of destroying.

A self-made machine that works on plaster moulds as if it is a landscape, unique drill bits Digg in the mould and take away sediment. This process creates shapes and profiles in the plaster, that after casting it in slip clay, will become visible on the vases, the products of the landscape. 
The vase has been a medium for storytelling throughout history; from mythologies to war-stories. Now its telling the tale of nature being consumed by men
